Parent Guide

A quick walkthrough for Brick families using the tournament chat and status board. Designed for mobile — keep this open in your pocket on tournament day.

1

Getting Started

On the home screen, you'll see a list of Active Tournaments. Tap the tournament your athlete is competing in.

You'll be asked for a 4-digit PIN. Your coach will share this PIN with the team. Each tournament has its own PIN, and PINs are different for coaches, athletes, and parents.

Next, enter a display name (for example, "Jane S." or "Mike — Liam's dad"). This is the name other parents and coaches will see next to your messages.

Your device remembers you after you sign in, so you won't need to re-enter the PIN every time you reopen the app.

2

Reading Athlete Status

At the top of every tournament screen is a collapsed 🥋 Athletes panel. Tap Show to expand it and see every athlete the coach is tracking. Tap Hide to collapse it again so you have more room to read chat.

Each athlete card shows:

  • Name and current status badge
  • Ring number — which ring they're competing at
  • ⏰ Start time — when their division is scheduled
  • Divisions they're entered in (Forms, Sparring, Weapons, etc.)
  • Notes from the coach (optional)

Status badges you'll see

The coach updates these in real time. As soon as the badge changes, you'll see it on your screen — no need to refresh.

3

Pinned Messages

Important info — like the day's schedule, ring assignments, or meeting spots — gets pinned by the coach and appears in a collapsed bar at the top of the chat.

By default this bar is hidden so chat is easier to scroll. Tap Show to expand pinned messages, and Hide to tuck them away.

4

Using the Chat

Type your message in the bar at the bottom and tap send. Everyone in the tournament can read it.

Reply to a message: tap the message you want to respond to, then choose Reply. Your message will show what you're replying to.

Announcements (📣) are from coaches — they stand out and play a chime so you don't miss them.

Urgent messages (🚨) are reserved for time-sensitive updates ("Liam to Ring 4 NOW"). Parents can send one urgent message at a time with a short cooldown, so please use it only when it really matters.

5

Turning on Notifications

So you don't have to stare at your phone all day, turn on notifications inside the tournament screen. Look for the notification toggle near the top.

You'll get alerts for:

  • Urgent messages from coaches and parents
  • Announcements from the coaching staff

Important: To receive push alerts, save this app to your phone's home screen first, then open it from the home screen icon and enable notifications.

On iPhone: tap the Share icon in Safari and choose "Add to Home Screen". Open Brick Hub from the home screen icon, then enable notifications. This is an Apple requirement for web app push alerts.

On Android: tap the menu (usually three dots) and choose "Add to Home screen". Open Brick Hub from the home screen icon, then enable notifications.

Tips for Tournament Day

  • Keep your phone on silent + vibrate — urgent alerts will still chime when the app is open.
  • Check the Athletes panel for ring assignments and start times.
  • If chat or status seems frozen, swipe away and reopen the app — it'll resync automatically.
  • Be kind in chat. Other families and coaches are reading along.
